High Speed Rail

Description

The idea of high-speed rail in our nation, long a staple of passenger travel in Japan and Europe, is starting to quickly gain momentum. The Texas A&M Transportation Institute’s Rail Research Group performs research to help determine the financial and technological feasibility of high-speed rail systems in Texas.

The Texas Department of Transportation’s Rail Division is currently undertaking two high-speed intercity passenger rail studies, focusing on the Oklahoma City to South Texas and Dallas/Fort Worth to Houston corridors.  TTI is providing technical assistance to the Rail Division in support of these corridor studies.

Research Initiatives

  • How Fast is a Fast Train? Comparing Attitudes and Preferences for Improved Passenger Rail Service among Urban Areas in the South Central High-Speed Rail Corridor
  • Policy and Financial Analysis of High-Speed Rail Ventures in the State of Texas
  • Potential Development of an Intercity Passenger Transit System in Texas
  • Development and Implementation of High-Speed Rail Systems in Texas
