Description
Rail-highway interaction refers to the point at which the roadway crosses a rail line—rail-highway grade crossings. The Texas A&M Transportation Institute’s (TTI) Rail Research group performs studies on railroad-highway crossings, including characteristics of the crossing environment and users, and the physical and operational improvements for safe and efficient use by both highway and rail traffic.
Outreach and Technology Transfer
TTI Rail Research also hosts a biennial National Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Safety Training Conference. This venue provides university-based researchers, industry professionals, federal and state department of transportation personnel, consultants, and vendors the opportunity to discuss current and future efforts to enhance safety for the public at highway-rail grade crossings.
